EMPERCK FOUNDATION sees in a future in which all who depend on land for their well being have secure land rights which is one of the basic and most powerful tools for lifting themselves and their families out of poverty. As when you have land on your own, it changes the way the world sees you and how you see yourself. And it must be noted that it is often said “a man reaps what he sows in life” that is to say without a piece of land a man can never reap to sow.
EMPERCK FOUNDATION was formed basically to help reduce land litigations if not eradicated in Ghana. Land is considered one of the greatest asserts in Africa and Ghana is not an exception. The mystery behind the proper acquisition of land in most of the Ghanaian communities remains an unsolved puzzle. Controversies surrounding the true ownership and proper acquisition of land have been a thorn in the flesh of our forefathers and leaders in our society. Dispute over land, popularly known as Land Litigation have been on a drastic increase in Ghana over this few years. Argument over the true or rightful owner of a piece or parcel of land as well as land boundaries has become very common among siblings, families, friends, tribes, communities, chiefs and even countries. This sometimes results in fatal assaults, injuries, or even death especially when the parties involved are not ready to just let go of the land in question. In some communities farming is their main source of income and is well known for the production of wild variety of food and cash crops but their productivity is deteriorating due to land litigations.
Many a times, people buy farm lands and building plots in Ghana that have been sold to sometimes up to ten other people or even more. Though Accra has attained notoriety for this practice, nevertheless, the practice is well embedded even in the minor towns. It seems to us that fraudsters, in particular find that as a way of extorting money from Ghanaians living abroad. They contrive that, after all, the Ghanaian living abroad has only a month or two to stay in Ghana when he/she comes home for vacation, and as such, has no time to litigate in our courts considering the numerous land cases saturating our courts and how long land cases take to go through our legal system. It as well happen to Ghanaians and non- Ghanaians living in Ghana. It is upon this realization that a group of individuals took upon themselves the duty of helping with their strength, skill and technical knowhow to provide a lasting solution to this problem. We inadvertently thought it would be very helpful to set up a foundation which has the potential of bringing positive minded people together to contribute towards finding lasting solutions to the serious nightmare we all face in land acquisition. As a practical way to solve this problem, EMPERCK FOUNDATION was born hoping to come out with more ideas to help provide solutions to this serious issue that is causing a lot of harm than good. And it must be noted that one of the most powerful tool in bringing down this problem is by educating the general public on land issues most importantly on how to acquire genuine land as well as documents and even the importance of having the documents on our lands.
