BACKGROUND
Christ Centered Counseling Network (CCCN) is a non-profit organization that is working to meet the challenge to end poverty in Ghana by 2030. Our country’s poverty level declined by 7.7% point between 1991 and 2006. Because of the favorable decline, we achieved our Millennium Development Goal (MDG). Extreme poverty
Show more also declined from 37% to 18% in 2005/2006. But the goal to end poverty continues to be challenged because the country has not been able to sustain the decrease in poverty.
Ghana’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) notes that the highest poverty originates in rural Ghanaian farming areas which accounts for 67.7% of the poverty challenge. Half of Ghanaians live in high poverty areas – the Savannah rural farming areas.
Several social intervention programs such as LEAP, SGSFT, and the free senior High School program which was created in 2017 are actively analyzing the causes and ways to end poverty.
Though not affiliated with the above programs, CCCN – sanctioned in 2017 - is joining the fight to end poverty and the causes of poverty in Ghana. CCCN was established to create suitable environments, restore hope and opportunities for Ghana’s needy, vulnerable and disadvantaged. Its focus is to help end unemployment, economic hardship, drug dependency, social vices (i.e., teenage pregnancy, street children, illiteracy, school drop, alcoholism, casual sex and sexually transmitted diseases, etc.

THE CHALLENGE
Ghana’s urban area faces many infrastructure challenges, but they are not impossible to correct. Some of the challenges include…
• The migrant population is increasing.
Between 2012 and 2017 – 23.7% or 6.8 million people were defined as poor Ghanaians, according the 2010 Census. People came to Ghana to live the good life. For many, unemployment became their reality. But a few found self- employment in the non-rural work areas. Their choice of work proved favorable.
• The poorest households are farmers or from rural farming areas.
The rural population, mainly from rural Savanah areas, numbers 39,076 or 23% of the population’s 169,896 residents living in poverty. The population consists of youth less than 15 years old, makes up 28.4% of the total and the elderly ages 60 years and older make up 4.5% of the group.
• Housing in metropolis Ghana is 58.2% compound living dwellings.
About 67.9% of sleeping rooms occupied by one-bedroom dwellings.
About 26.4% households consists of 10 or more members living in one room dwellings.
• Water from pipe-borne, etc. inside the dwelling is about 3 out of 5 residents.
About 39% of toilets are for public usage
About 22.3% are privately owned
About 34 % water closets
About .3% are bucket/pan toilets
About 38.9 % households share toilets.
• Waste disposal
56.7% of solid waste is dispersed by public dumping
2 in 10 residents dispose solid waste by public dumping in open spaces.
• Household collection accounts for 5.5%
Liquid waste disposal, throwing waste into gutters – 36%
Drainage system into gutter – 25.6%

THE SOLUTION
In 2017, CCCN was officially founded and based on the philosophy of the Yefulkay Discipleship and writing ministry (2012) to spread the gospel and teaching youth how to keep away from crime, drugs and all forms of immoral life-styles which are problems in society.
CCCN is registered at the Registrar General Department of Ghana and accredited by the social Welfare of Ghana to operate a national non-governmental organization with recognition number D.S.W…/7099.
The principal activities are Professional counseling, Social Studies, Research works, Human Research Development, and Entrepreneurship aid, and Schools and Community outreach programs.
CCCN’s goal is to end poverty in Ghana. It compliments the Ghanaian government’s Millennium Development Goal (MDG) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) whose goals are to eradicate Ghanaian poverty by 2030.
