CARE began operations in Ghana in 1994 as part of the Gulf of Guinea (Benin, Ghana, Togo) mission, transitioning to a full Country Office in 2009.Our programmes focus on two main areas in the fight against extreme poverty and social injustice: Social and Economic Empowerment (SEE) and Food and Nutrition Security (FNS) seeking to transform the lives of poor, vulnerable and marginalized women and youth.Our core approaches also seek to strengthen women's voice, participation and leadership in decision making in the household, in the community, and in the broader society, as well as their access to and benefit from opportunities and resources.
CARE is working with multinational and national private sector entities to promote equitable, fair and inclusive business practices in cocoa sector
CARE supports Women in Agriculture Platforms (WAP} and Community Development Committee (CDC} through with women smallholder farmers and other community activists participate in and influence key decisions including the fair allocation of fertile land for farming to women. WAPs in Northern Ghana have been instrumental in influencing the Government's "Planting for Food and Jobs" programme.
