Dreams for Orphans - Accra

Kary Doerfler a flight attendant in 2006 made a trip to Ghana and immediately became an activist, forming relations with children’s relief work in ACCRA. Following this connection she promptly gathered clothing, bedding, medicines and other items accompanying her next flight to Ghana. Doerfler then realized clothing and small items were only the tip of the iceberg and she wanted to contribute to the overall growth and success of the children. She enlisted the help of two elementary school teachers from Seattle to travel with her and create a program which consists of supplemental language, reading and math. The threesome saw positive feedback from the programs and immediately enlisted the help of the community to help their cause. Dreams for Orphans in early 2010 became a non-profit and

began raising funds and organizing initiatives to benefit vulnerable infants in the social welfare system.

Our mission is to give hope to orphans in developing countries through education and a safe environment. Dreams for Orphans is currently working to improve living conditions for orphans in Accra, Ghana and provide a warm, nurturing environment. Dreams for Orphans cares for infants and children who have been abandoned, abused or whose mothers are incarcerated, require long-term hospitalization or are suffering from HIV/AIDS.
