There are not enough healthcare facilities to take care of the population of Ghana. In Ghana the standard of living is also controlling more than half of the country’s ability to go in for the basic healthcare.
Volunteers under this project assist the doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff in hospitals and community clinics in different locations across the country. The work being done by volunteers under this section when taken must attain some basic qualification, experience and knowledge about the work. Qualified nurses and doctors assist in the provision of the day-to-day treatments of much illness. Medical students and Pre-medical students also help doctors and nurses in order to gain the experience of working with due diligence. Medical volunteers usually helps in maternal health, mental health, and surgery, laboratories, counselling and testing.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in your field in a different culture where practices may differ considerably to what you are used to.
Role of Volunteer’s
A volunteer under this condition will be allowed to observe and assist in much way basing on their experience. Volunteers will be dealing with medical doctor who spends most of his or her daily activities such as gynaecologist, neology, orthopaedics, obstetrics, paediatrics and surgery by way of
• Taking pressure and changing bandages for patients.
• Learning about different healthcare practices among other cultures and giving basic education on prevention of diseases.
• Helping in basic first aid and care.
