Question for Nissan Auto Parts Ltd

I am using Nissan Sentra. The 1999 year model. I have recently observed that it consumed far more than expected. Though I understand the high cost of fuel in recent times, I have increased my purchases and consults my mechanic who also confirmed that the consumption is too much. What could be the caused and how do I rectify that? I really love my car.
