Purpose of the Role:
To lead the execution of the company's sustainability strategy/agenda and providing coordination and integrated support to all functions across PGH in understanding sustainability obligations (going beyond compliance). Also responsible for planning and implementing initiatives, monitoring and reporting results and outcomes.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
• Develop sustainability procedures and action plans for review and approval and subsequently communicate and implement same across PGH.• Proactively identify and exploit opportunities to embed sustainability considerations into the day-to-day process activities in PGH and effect same.• Environmental Stewardship: Effectively manage PGH’s ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System for continued compliance and suitability. Oversee initiatives to reduce energy consumption, water usage, and emissions, aiming for improved environmental performance. Identify additional initiatives where applicable.• Lead in all matters relating to utilities, energy resource, carbon reduction, sustainable environments, while coordinating matters relating to responsible sourcing, employee well-being and legal compliance to ensure that PGH functions in an environmentally, socially and economically sustainable manner.• Systematically drive PGH’s commitment to responsible corporate citizenship.• Waste Reduction: Implement waste reduction programs to minimize waste generation and optimize recycling and reuse efforts.
Supply Chain Sustainability: Collaborate with suppliers to ensure sustainability practices are adopted throughout the supply chain.
• Keep abreast with sustainability trends globally and ensure PGH is abreast of same.• Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulations /legal requirements vis-à-vis environment, labour and business ethics as well as reporting requirements. Stay updated on relevant legislation.• Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with internal and external stakeholders, fostering awareness and understanding of sustainability goals.• Employee Training: Develop and deliver sustainability training programs for employees to increase awareness and participation.• Sustainability Reporting: Prepare and submit sustainability reports for internal and external use.• Cost Reduction: Identify cost-saving opportunities through sustainable practices and monitor the financial impact of sustainability initiatives.• Develop and deploy appropriate metrics by which sustainability performance including financials can be measured.• Community/Stakeholder Engagement: Establish community outreach programs and initiatives to promote social responsibility in consultation with PGH’s PR Team.
Key Performance Measuresa) Carbon Footprint Reduction: Measure and track the reduction in carbon emissions per unit of production annually across PGH processes.b) Energy Efficiency: Monitor and improve energy consumption per unit of production. Record a positive monthly trend vis-à-vis EMS objective.c) Waste Reduction: Track and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills and increase recycling rates per quarterly tracking outcome.d) Sustainability Index: Develop a sustainability index to evaluate overall sustainability performance.e) Supplier Sustainability Score: Evaluate and improve supplier sustainability practices, reflected in a supplier scorecard annually per defined target versus baseline established after initial assessment.f) Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all ESG related regulations and certifications.g) Employee Engagement: Measure employee engagement in sustainability programs and initiatives as per defined metrics and ensure quarterly improvement. Also ensure compliance to people-related ESG requirements.h) Cost Savings: Identify and quantify cost savings resulting from sustainability initiatives on a monthly basis.i) Community Impact: Measure the positive impact on the local community and social responsibility initiatives.j) Sustainability Reporting: Timely and accurate submission of quarterly sustainability reports by the 7th day of each ensuing quarter. Submit a monthly report on the activities of the section to the HQSHE by 4th of each ensuing month. Provide a detailed update on initiatives and activities on-going during departmental leadership team weekly review meeting.

Working Experience: 5 - 10 Years

Education: First Degree
Requirements
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA) required1. Excellent writing and communication skills.2. Detail-oriented with good command of sustainability requirements, environmental legislation and initiatives and ESG concerns3. Working knowledge in global sustainability trends, policies and climate change.4. Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, motivate and control teams/stakeholders to deliverresults5. Capable of working under sustained pressure to produce results with little supervision.6. Excellent computer skills - Microsoft Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Word, excellent data analyticskillsVerifiable involvement in any of the following Certifications:
  • International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC)
  • B CORP
